Le GSFA a été fondé le 12 octobre 1968 à Fribourg. Parmis les membres fondateurs se nomment : Bruno Edera, Nag et Gisèle Ansorge, Georges Schwizgebel, Claude Luyet et Daniel Suter. Le but était de fédérer toutes les personnes actives dans l’animation en Suisse, afin d’échanger et de collaborer pour promouvoir la création du cinéma d’animation.
